A Time for Reflection

It is a very quiet day today in Newcastle. Most of the shops are shut and the neighbourhood is still and serene. I am sitting quietly thinking about life, love and the meaning of existence. After the frenetic rush of Xmas it is therapeutic to relax and take some time for contemplation. The time between Xmas and New Year is an oasis of calm before the New Year starts with all of it's demands. It is an ideal time to take stock, reflect on the past year and consider the one coming. In the hurry of everyday life it is easy to let the urgent get in the way of the necessary. Having a few days to meditate and reflect is very valuable. I have decided that if I don't take some time for myself, I will have no energy or bandwidth for others. So here I am recharging my battery ready for the coming year of challenge and zestful living. |

If we all looked at ourselves as an electric golf cart, we would realize the simple principle. "You can't do the next round, unless you recharge your batteries."

In the second half of my career, I used to make it a habit to take long weekends now and again just for this purpose. I wouldn't go anywhere necessarily, perhaps for a drive, a visit to a park, or whatever. Time to contemplate is important.
