Cheap Accommodation in Rarotonga Not everyone has a lot of money to go traveling, hence the popularity of backpackers lodges. Doug Bayley, a Rarotongan local, has a area behind his Internet Cafe where you can stay for $27 (USD) a night. This is not a top hotel, but a local home and for this reason it is a lot of fun to stay there. Doug is a real character who is a raconteur and maker of the best milkshakes in Rarotonga. Doug provides a pickup service from the airport for new arrivals staying at Avana Guesthouse. Don't expect a limousine, Doug's car has seen better days. For young people wanting a cheap holiday this is the place to go. The lodge is in beautiful Avana beach about 30 minutes from the airport. The speed limit is between 40-60 km/hr, and Doug's Avana Guesthouse is 15km from the airport.
