Dublin in the Snow

I had the pleasure of visiting Wicklow which is south of Dublin over the Christmas break. We travelled by train and ferry which was a pleasure in itself. Having left snowy Newcastle behind we thought, wrongly as it happened, that we had escaped the snow. No such luck. We had just settled in when the snow started falling. Snow in itself doesn't pose a problem, but when you are on a hill with a steep sloping road it becomes more problematic. Everything looked beautiful but we had to walk into town to get supplies, go to the pub for a Guiness, and for some exercise. The one night we went into the big city to hear some genuine Irish music it was sleety and very cold. The music and Guiness made up for the weather. One thing I learned from the experience is that walking downhill in ice and snow is more difficult than walking uphill in the same conditions. I suspect this was due to the relaxing qualities of the Guiness!! What we did see of Dublin and Wicklow was fantastic but we will make our next trip in the Summer. Now did I remember to mention the Guiness... |

A little extra brew can be critical in getting through a long winter.
Thanks for sharing the holiday humor. One of these days ,I hope to visit Ireland, but I think I might play golf.
