Edinburgh - Light and Darkness

I went to Edinburgh last weekend. It was cold, wet, grey and sombre. Excellent, I can see why the Presbyterians like it. It reminded me of a TV film I saw as a child called, "Bobby of Greyfriars". I remember thinking what a dismal place Edinburgh appeared to be on that film. However, I loved Edinburgh, the beer was good, the pubs warm, the local friendly, and when the lights came on at night it was spectacular. I stayed at the Old Waverly Hotel, close to town, lovely rooms and a Scottish breakfast not to be missed. I will return to see the Tattoo and the Comedy Festival. It is only one and a half hours train ride from Newcastle where I am now working. The train is quick and comfortable. Highly recommended. |
