Excellent Movies - The History Boy's
I have just watched the movie, The History Boys, which is based on a comedy by Alan Bennett. The film is set in a Northern UK grammar school in the 1980's. A select group of bright boys are trying to pass the Oxbridge (Oxford/Cambridge) examinations. This is an excellent social commentary on the elitism of Oxbridge, the aspiration of working class Northeners to succeed and the trials, joys and tribulations of late adolescence. There is also some piquant comment on poetry... I thought that is was on a par with The Dead Poet's Society. A must see movie. DK |
