Management of Change By Grant Goodman Change Management is Easy? Really The theorists tell us that change management is easy. Just unfreeze the current behavior, change it and then refreeze it. That works OK for ice but not for humans. The real process is more like this: Suggest a change Deal with all the reasons why the suggested change cannot and shouldn't be made Restate the change Deal with all the reasons why change cannot and shouldn't be implemted, again Attempt to make the change Retreat and lick your wounds!! Try again Listen to everyone telling you the reasons why change cannot and shouldn't happen yet again Regroup and persevere Change the behavior Refreeze Listen to people take credit for the change and give all the reasons why change could and should and did happen Notice that your efforts have not been recognized. Give up OR Realize that it was a mistake and try to wean people off the new behavior that they have got wedded to in less than two weeks Retire with dignity. Theorizing about change management is easy, the practice is not!
