Riding the Bus

When I was a young man growing up in New Zealand I detested riding on buses. Now that I am in my dotage I love using the bus or the bourse as they say here in Newcastle upon Tyne. My bus stop is about 5 minutes from where I live and barring the occasional snowstorm or rain the walk there is pleasant. I then get on the Number 38 and head off to work. The trip takes 30 minutes but the time is not wasted for the following reasons: It is relaxing, the driver makes all the driving decisions not me It is a great way to watch people It gives me some personal time to listen to music, podcasts and learn a language - German at the moment It has a much smaller carbon footprint than my car The rocking motion makes me snooze - one of the benefits of old age!! It is much cheaper than running a car, no insurance, maintenance, rego etc And finally it is safer. The number 38 is a double decker and cars keep out of its way as do pedestrians!! |
