The Business Poet

Many people, you may be one of them, see business people as heartless, money-grabbing individuals. People out for what they can get, crying out, "Greed is good". But this, like many generalisations, misrepresents the business poet.

So what is a business poet? A business poet is a person engaged in business who also enjoys reading and/or writing poetry. Two famous poets belonging to this group are T.S. Eliot, who was a banker, and Wallace Stevens, who was an Insurance executive. In the midst of their business, or "busyness", they took time out to write poetry.

Another contemporary poet is Dana Goia who went to the MBA program at the Stanford Business School to become a poet. You can read his story on Wikipedia.

Poetry is not some esoteric pursuit followed by wild-haired academics, bohemians and neurotic people. It is a passion that allows people to pursue clarity and truth in the interest of communicating the realities and fancies of the world we live in.

My blog, The MBS Poet is dedicated to this interesting topic.
